Mein Forschungsinteresse gilt der Modellierung von Stoffkreisläufen im Erdsystem um neue Erkentnisse über das Verhalten von Schadstoffen in der Umwelt zu gewinnen. Hierzu verwende ich komplexe drei-dimensionale numerische Modelle. Mein Forschungsschwerpunkt ist die Atmosphäre, insbesondere in der planetaren Grenzschicht, sowie der Stoffaustausch mit angrenzenden Kompartimenten.
Derzeit beschäftige ich mich hauptächlich mit dem Einfluss von Schadstoffemissionen des Schiffverkehrs in der Nordsee auf die Luftqualität im Küstenraum sowie dem Austausch von Quecksilber zwischen der Atmosphäre und dem Ozean im Bereich von Nord- und Ostsee.

seit 2011 Mitarbeiter am Institut für Küstenforschung des Helmholtz-Zentrums Hereon. Mitarbeit an zwei EU Projekten, dem FP7 Projekt „Global Mercury Observation System (GMOS)“ und dem INTERREG IV B Projekt „Clean North Sea Shipping (CNSS)“ Schwerpunkte sind der Transport und die Deposition von Quecksilber in Europa (GMOS) sowie der Einfluss von Schiffsabgasen auf die Luftqualität im Nordseeraum (CNSS).
2008 – 2011 Doktorarbeit im Bereich der Chemietransportmodellierung bei Prof. Andreas Möller (Umweltinformatik, Universität Lüneburg) und Prof. Markus Quante (Umweltchemie, Helmholtz- Zentrum Geesthacht) am Institut für Küstenforschung des Helmholtz-Zentrums Hereon.
