Dr. Stefan Bruns research focuses on the characterization of the physical properties of porous media via 3D and 4D imaging. Since October 2019, Dr. Bruns works at the DESY outstation of Hereon on the DESY campus in Hamburg where he contributes to the SynchroLoad project.

Birte Hindenlang is a material scientist and works as a Ph.D. student at the Hereon outstation at DESY. Here, she investigates the degradation behavior of Mg-Implants under load. During her master thesis she investigated the evaporation behavior of water from t-ZnO networks.

Kamila is a physicist, holding a master's degree in radiophysics. Her master thesis is dedicated to the study of synthetic hydroxyapatite powders designed for bone implantation by magnetic resonance. As a part of MgSafe project, she investigates newly formed bone ultrastructure and how it is affected by biodegradable Mg implant corrosion at the Hereon outstation on the DESY campus in Hamburg.

Dr. Christian Lucas

Christian Lucas is a computer scientist working at the Hereon outstation at DESY in Hamburg. Since June 2020 he contributes to the project "Multi-task Deep Learning for Large Scale Multimodal Biomedical Image Analysis (MDLMA)" and combines methods for the complementary machine learning of various image analysis tasks on multi-modal image data.

Jalil Nourisa received his BEng and MEng degrees in the field of biomedical engineering and wrote his research thesis in the area of numerical simulation in orthopedic biomechanics. He joined Hereon in May 2019 with the research topic of “Computer simulation of bone growth and remodeling: An application for Mg-based implants". His workplace is at the DESY campus in Hamburg.

His research interests are: biomineralisation, surfaces & interfaces (adsorption process, Langmuir layers, growth phenomena), nanoparticles, metal organic frameworks, research on proteins & polymers under shear and pressure conditions, x-ray reflectivity, grazing incidence diffraction & grazing incidence small angle scattering.

Dr. Berit Zeller-Plumhoff

Berit Zeller-Plumhoff holds a master in Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Bioengineering. As a PhD student she was focussing on tomographic imaging and image-based modelling of soft tissues. Since September 2016, she leads the project 'MgBone - Multimodal imaging for structural analysis of bone modeling induced by degraded magnesium implants' and works at the Hereon outstation DESY in Hamburg. Berit studies the impact of biodegradable implants on the crystallisation and crystal orientation of newly formed bone.
