The main research objective of the PhotoCoat proposal is the development of photocatalytically active and high protective surfaces based on synergistic combination of environmentally friendly PEO (plasma electrolytic oxidation) coating preformed on the surface of zinc and different types of MOFs. Among with controllable sealing of the pores, MOFs are expected to enhance the photocatalytic performance of PEO coating. In the systematic way, It is planned to investigate how the parameters of parent PEO layers, namely chemical composition and pore structure, affect the further MOF crystallization.

PhotoCoat

Two MOF structures will be in focus: ZIF-8 formed by Zn ions connected by 2-methylimidazolate, 2-mIm ions; and ECUT-137 made of ions of zinc and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazolate, atz. As a result of successful realization of the PhotoCoat project, creation of novel MOF@PEO coatings is expected, which can be considered as potential candidates for the application in wastewater cleaning combining the high level of photocatalytic activity, corrosion protection and easy workup.
