Sustainable Catalysis
Catalysis plays a decisive role in chemical and photoelectrochemical processes. The “Heterogenous Catalysis” department studies how chemical reactions occur at catalytic interfaces. To fundamentally understand these reactions from the level of individual atoms up to nanometer-sized interfaces, we combine experimental methods of the highest temporal and spatial resolution with the capabilities of modern computer simulations. This enables the identification of new powerful catalysts that are economical, scalable and durable and can thereby form an essential basis for sustainable matter cycles and our energy supply.
