Coastal Climate and Regional Sea Level Changes
The “Coastal Climate and Regional Sea Level Changes” department researches how the environmental conditions in coastal zones and shelf seas change. We concentrate on reconstructing past and present conditions as well as developing future scenarios. The aim is to understand and assess long-term changes. The insights we obtain should serve to advance scientific progress while at the same time help decision makers develop strategies for action. We are particularly concerned with changes in regional mean sea level, with extreme events, such as storms, storm floods and sea state as well as cascading events. Together with internal and external partners, we pursue interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, using different modeling approaches and statistical methods.
