Dr. Axel T. Neffe’s scientific focus is on biobased and bioinspired materials, biodegradable polymers, and cell-material interactions. In 2004, he received his PhD at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Universität Hamburg. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, he became head of the department "Biomimetic Materials" at the Institute of Biomaterial Science at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Teltow (2006-2018).
While finalizing his habilitation on the topic of " Bio-Based and Bioinspired Polymer Systems", Dr. Neffe obtained a temporary professorship of Macromolecular Chemistry at the Institute for Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry of the Department of Chemistry at the Universität Hamburg. In 2020, he returned to the Institute of Active Polymers at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon in Teltow. The focus of Dr. Neffe’s research group led includes the synthesis of polymeric materials, the utilization of molecular recognition in the design of materials, and the application of polymers in biomedicine.
