The publication discusses glucose-responsive shape-memory cryogels. Authors Mark Behl, Qian Zhao, and Andreas Lendlein present a glucose-induced shape memory effect in a porous cryogel by implementing glucose-cleavable boronic ester bonds. A polymeric network architecture consisting of triol and phenylboronic acid moieties shows shape fixity and recovery for the fluctuation range of Cglu in human blood. The shape memory hydrogels thus represent a promising option for diabetes treatment, for example.
