Coastal researchers from Geesthacht cooperate with Chinese partners
A nine-person delegation from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research visited the Institute for Coastal Research

On 12 April 2019 alongside the exchange of expertise, the visit also saw the signing of a cooperative agreement which will further intensify marine research in Geesthacht and in China in future. The focus of the cooperation will be the open exchange of ideas and information from science and technology as well as reciprocal staff research trips.

Professor Corinna Schrum and Professor Kay Emeis, each head of an institute division at the Institute for Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, gave presentations focused on the work of the Institute of Coastal Research. Professor Fan Wang, director of both Chinese institutes, and Professor Xin Liu from the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research presented their research topics in two lectures. In the discussion following the lectures, possible points of commonality for joint research were raised and the first potential synergies discovered.
To conclude, the cooperation agreement was signed by the scientific director at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Professor Wolfgang Kaysser. On the Chinese side, Professor Fan Wang and Professor Chaolun Li, the directors of the Chinese Institutes for Oceanology and Coastal Zone Research, signed the agreement.
