The expedition Clockwork Ocean begins
From June 16th to 27th 2016 the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht will be using a zeppelin for the first time in coastal or ocean research. It is equipped with special cameras and will help detect small ocean eddies. Three research ships will measure the eddies with various instruments.
The Science
To detect these small eddies and to comprehend the innermost functions of this complex Clockwork Ocean, eddy hunters develop very fast and extremely high resolution observational methods that they employ on aircraft from above and on research vessels in the water.
