On Saturday April 22nd, people around the world are taking to the streets to demonstrate for free science. Science Marches are also planned in Hamburg and Berlin.

The President of the Helmholtz Association, Prof. Dr. Otmar D. Wiestler, supports the Science March. In this video (only available in German), he encourages the Helmholtz community to participate actively: "Let us face this important issue together and send a clear signal."

Why do we march? (extracts)
"Appropriate, secure financing of scientific institutions"
"Facts not fiction - evidence-based decisions in politics"
"International Solidarity with Scientists"
"Strengthen knowledge transfer into society"
"Diversity and equality in science"

By the way, the Science March is not just for researchers: Everyone who is concerned about education, research and innovation can participate - all citizens are invited. "In order to gain new insights, research must be free and act freely," says President Wiestler. This is why the March for Science is also impartial.
