Development of an interactive process technology database and design guidelines for friction stir welding of lightweight materials

DIPLOMAT

Project timeline
Start:
May 2003
Duration:
24 months
End:
April 2005
General Information
The project addresses the development of an interactive Process technology Database (IPDT) supported by a process model and the development of guidelines for FSW compatible design of components and structures. The Technology Implementation Plan (TIP) will support the research strategy and the dissemination and implementation of project results. The detail specification of application requirements at the beginning of the project will set the boundary conditions for the planned work programme tool. The main objective of the present project is to provide the basis for industrial application of the friction stir welding process both from a process and component design point of view. This will be achieved by developing an interactive, model supported, process technology database and by evaluating and optimising present component configuration to achieve an FSW-compatible design.
