General Information
The problem to be solved is the reduction of biofouling on underwater instruments used for measuring, observing and monitoring in the marine environment. The outcome of the BRIMOM project will be recommendations that will be the basis of a European research infrastructure to improve the reliability of data used in marine research measurement and monitoring programmes. In addressing EU policies, the project will make a significant contribution to the underlying science capability to halt the degradation of coastal and marine resources, to assist with the implementation of the UN Convention on Biodiversity and to support EU policies on marine pollution and water quality. In particular, BRIMOM will improve the EU infrastructure for in-situ monitoring of aquatic (in particular, marine) environments. This will assist in future environmental management activities and the implementation of the EC Water Quality Directive (2000/60/EC).
