World Oceans Day
The sea - a place of longing for many. Photo: Fotolia/DeVice.
Since 1992, the United Nations (UN) has wanted to make the protection of the seas and oceans more explicit. The World Day of the Oceans on June 8th was initiated for this purpose.
The coastal researchers of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht are committed to the preservation and protection of the oceans and coastal seas in their daily work.
The world's oceans determine our climate, hold enormous food and raw material resources and serve as energy sources and transport routes. These are the issues the researchers deal with.
