The issue to exchange data provided by different computational solvers as well as required and used in different programming languages forms a request in specific formats signifying a strong non-uniformity for an easy nexus with other solvers. This non-uniformity has created a need to focus on intermittent state-of-theart data-centric software tools, which aim to bridge data exchange technology, to ensure heterogeneity across a wide range of solvers [1]. Moreover, data organization in the form of ontological representation and metadata structures are necessary to be prepared as a standard for a coherent representation of information regardless of the diverse nature of data formats specific to a scientific discipline. A domain ontology based on the European Materials & Modelling Ontology (EMMO) for galvanic corrosion is outlined and connected to corresponding concepts in a galvanic corrosion model. Entsprechende Vorhersagen sind aber nicht trivial und bedingen einen systematischen Ansatz, der oftmals über die Extrapolation einer physiochemischen Gesetzmäßigkeit hinausgeht. Korrosionsprozesse und deren mathematische Beschreibung stellen generell eine interdisziplinäre Herausforderung dar. Die Vielfältigkeit der treibenden kritischen Größen (Reaktionskinetik, Diffusion usw.) sowie das mehrfache Umschalten untereinander, macht Berechnungen sehr komplex. Dazu kommen methodische Anforderungen, die insbesondere mit der Skalenvielfalt zeitlich als auch örtlich einhergehen. Das Motto lautet also: Den richtigen Prozess auf der richtigen Skala erfassen, mathematisch disziplinenübergreifend modellieren, methodisch effizient lösen sowie das Gültigkeitsfenster eindeutig definieren und auch validieren. Dieser Beitrag zeigt Einblicke in dieses Thema und hilft, sich in der digitalen Korrosionsforschung zu orientieren. Verkin Institute}, abstract = {The PEO process (plasma electrolytic oxidation) converts the magnesium surface to hard and thick ceramic-like coatings composed of high temperature crystalline oxide phases formed due to local dielectric breakdown of the oxide film and formation of micro arc discharges. Unfortunately, the discharges also introduce defects to the coatings such as discharge channels, pores from gas inclusions and cracks, with negative effects on the corrosion resistance. Such defects are quite critical for magnesium alloys, because they are offering fast path-ways for the electrolyte to reach the substrate and to initiate corrosion. Thus reducing the defects and introducing stable phases to PEO coatings is an essential requirement for most of the industrial applications to improve the corrosion resistance. In contrast the requirements for biomedical applications of magnesium are significantly different as they are considered as degradable implants and coatings must degrade as well. Furthermore, in many applications it is desired to add additional functionalities to Mg surfaces via PEO processing and multifunctional coatings with anticorrosion, self-lubrication, anti-wear, bioactive and photocatalytic properties which can be produced with the aid of additives to the electrolytes. This presentation will focus on some of our research activities related to PEO processing of Mg alloys, including understanding of phase and coating formation, corrosion and wear properties of PEO coatings, use of additives and post-treatment options to add active corrosion protection and other additional functionalities and PEO coatings for biomedical applications.
