The Project aims to develop and validate REACH compliant conversion coatings for Al and Steel based on the Zirconia- and Titania-based conversion coatings, totally Cr-free and supplemented with corrosion inhibitors. The development will increase the robustness of current alternatives to Cr(VI)/Cr(III) and Phosphate surface treatments by means of a holistic approach where the two critical aspects (active corrosion protection and thickness control) that lead to a lack of robustness in corrosion protection and paint adhesion are addressed.

Consortium will deliver formulation and additives (HEREON & DOK), the application methodology (FINITEC) and equipment for layer detection and thickness measurement under 2 microns (SENSOFAR).
