Hereon Transformation Cases - Supporting transformative science
Transforming the future - with help of our Tool Box and active support for transformative science
The BMBF-funded project “Hereon Transformation Cases” strengthens transformative science with a tool box for transdisciplinary work and the application of practical methods at the Helmholtz Center. From workshops and Delphi surveys to funding opportunities, we are jointly developing solutions for a sustainable future.

Through the application of transformative science, non-university research institutions such as Hereon can play a greater role in the much-needed transformation for a better future than traditional transfer can.
The “Hereon Transformation Cases” project of the Helmholtz Center Hereon has therefore set itself the task of developing a toolbox for transdisciplinary work that will help science, society, politics and business to shape the future together. The goal: to actively transform the future.
The tool box includes methods, formats and instruments such as critical design, stakeholder workshops, Delphi surveys and small real-world laboratories.
Within selected transformation fields at Hereon, individual research questions and projects are supported or implemented according to their project status with the help of some of these tools.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the “Hereon Transformation Cases” focus on holistic approaches to promote collaboration.
Pilots of Transformation Cases
Transformation Case “Carbon Management"
In the “Carbon Management” transformation case, we are bringing together all Hereon researchers whose research interfaces with the topic of carbon management in order to jointly develop a vision that Hereon should pursue in this area and serve as a basis for refining the research strategy.
Procedure
o Stakeholder Mapping
o Transdisciplinary Delphi survey with participants from research, politics, business/industry and society
o Vision and strategy Workshops
