SOOP is building a platform to strengthen innovation and interaction for a sustainable approach to the ocean. One of the main objectives of the SOOP innovation platform is to open up a larger and more reliable market for manufacturers of ocean sensor technology - with scalable and mutually compatible instruments that are easy to use and have known characteristics. Among other things, open technology and software developments are promoted and cost-effective and easy-to-use ocean observation technologies, sensors and modular connection kits are made available. This will be achieved in particular by activating public participation in ocean observation, including that of non-scientific stakeholders.

SOOP is carried out jointly by GEOMAR, AWI and Hereon (coordinated by GEOMAR) .
