Deputy Head of Department

My research focuses on the development and application of analytical methods for the determination of organic pollutants in the marine environment. During my PhD, I investigated sources, transport and sinks of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). In particular, I focused on the transition from banned PFAS to replacement compounds and upcoming analytical techniques addressing the entire group of contaminants. My current postdoctoral research deals with developing and applying high-resolution mass spectrometry-based approaches to identify novel pollutants of concern.

My expertise covers the following areas:

  • Ultra-trace analysis of organic pollutants.
  • Mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS).
  • Suspect screening of organic contaminants in environmental samples.
  • Sum parameters for the analysis of PFAS (Total Oxidizable Precursor Assay).
  • Sampling and analysis of seawater, river water and sediment samples.
