Black Sea Monitoring and Forecasting Centre (CMEMS2)

CMEMS2 BS-MFC

Project timeline
Start:
January 2022
Duration:
36 months
End:
December 2024
General Information
Black Sea – Monitoring Forecasting Centre (BS MFC) provides regular and systematic information about the physical state of the ocean and marine ecosystems of the Black Sea. The system is based on numerical ocean models assimilating in-situ and satellite data. BS MFC gathers expertise in the field of ocean analysis and forecast. It brings together knowledge of the regional Black Sea dynamics and enhances technical links with other CMEMS components. The evolutions are implemented as an overall approach and through three major subtasks: Physical/Blue Ocean (including Waves), Biogeochemistry / Green Ocean Ice / White Ocean. Moreover, BS MFC’s objectives include the planning and efficient implementation of systems upgrades, products quality, and support for the production of the Ocean State Report (OSR) and Ocean Monitoring Indicators (OMI). This is a 'tender' in the frame of the COPERNICUS-Phase#2 CMEMS services financed by the European Union and managed by Mercator Ocean (FR).

HEREON is responsible for the Waves Production Unit for operations and data production, and product quality and participates in the service evolution tasks and cross-cutting activities and contributes to OSR and OMI.
